At once tender and unsettling, the films, sculptures, installations, and performances of Geumhyung Jeong (* 1980) are often studies in animism of some sort. For her first solo exhibition in Switzerland, the South Korean artist and choreographer focuses her attention on the erotics of technical animism. She creates a large-scale installation comprised of numerous robotic sculptures built from DIY technologies and short films demonstrating the strange choreographies to which she subjects her “homemade” bodies. Like so much of her work, the ensemble questions the boundaries between desire and control, human and machine, animate and inanimate.

Performance:
At once weirdly sensual and ominous, the solo exhibition Homemade RC Toy by Geumhyung Jeong (* 1980) becomes the stage for her new performance in which the South Korean artist and choreographer’s interactions with “homemade” robotic sculptures question the boundaries between the human and the machine, the controller and the controlled. Please note: Seating is limited, no reservations, and no admission after the performance (approx. 45 min) has begun; please arrive on time.

Geumhyung Jeong’s Homemade RC Toy, comprising an exhibition and live performances, is captivating and strange, questioning the boundaries between the animate and inanimate, controller and controlled, flesh and machine. The deliriously inventive filmmaking duo Adam Csoka Keller and Evelyn Bencicova pay tribute to these questions, using both human and machine-driven devices to capture the project in the exhibition trailer you can see here.
