As part of the exhibition PANTHEON by Valentin Noujaïm, Kunsthalle Basel is showing the lecture performance Visual Diary by Fabio Cherstich.
In this performative narration, Cherstich combines his experiences as a theatre and opera director with his long-standing involvement with the queer art scene in New York in the 1980s. Using a personal archive of photos and sound recordings, he provides an insight into the work and fate of artists Patrick Angus, Larry Stanton and Darrell Ellis – lives that ended tragically too soon due to the AIDS crisis and fell into oblivion.
Visual Diary ties in with Valentin Noujaïm’s exhibition PANTHEON, which is creating a hall of fame for forgotten places and their protagonists at Kunsthalle Basel. It commemorates those who were displaced by the prestigious La Défense project in Paris – including young people and their places of community.
