Sophie Jung’s performance I wuz born this way…WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE? (A Miss Spell to Free Yourself from Patriarchal Undermining in the Work Place) takes the form of a fast-paced, loquacious tackling of contemporary sexism.
Oppressed by Privilege and Privileged by Oppression are the names of the two bands performing – simultaneously. This is a collective project initiated by Daniela Brugger and Vera Bruggmann, with Franziska Baumgartner, Nadja Bührer, Daniela Caderas, Linus Gemsch, Lysann König, Lea Kuhn, Nora Locher, Marlon McNeill, Julia Minnig, Lea Rüegg, Alena Stählin, Sara&Natascha.
Previous to any rehearsals, a public was invited by an open call to submit texts in response to the respective band names. The submitted texts served as raw material that the artists adapted and interpreted musically. The result will now be presented live at Kunsthalle Basel. In Aufstand der Privilegierten, a performance with the two bands and a host for several opinions, they question their roles as individuals in a capitalistic society and open up the ambivalent discussion whether one is oppressed or privileged.
Oppressed by Privilege and Privileged by Oppression raise once again their voices at Kunsthalle Basel, in the framework of the exhibition New Swiss Performance Now and followed by their record release. Although this performance marks the end of the two bands, the voices remain.
