On the last day of the exhibition Winter Line by Ross Birrell and David Harding, Kunsthalle Basel invites the members of Basler Kunstverein to an excursion to Raron (VS). The German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, whom the artists adressed in their work To Music (2014), currently on view in their show at Kunsthalle Basel, is buried in Raron. In Raron, after a reading by David Harding at the poet’s grave, the musical composition Motet (2014) by Ross Birrell will be premiered at the church of St. Romanus by the Basel-based ensemble Solo Voices. Motet is in three movements: Raron, Ein Wind und Rose, oh reiner Widerspruch and responds to Rilke’s The Sonnets to Orpheus (1922) and the poet’s epitaph on his grave at Raron.
