Luke Fowler, Pilgrimage from Scattered Points, (2006)
The film is a very personal documentary about Scratch Orchestra, a group of professional and amateur musicians, and other free-thinking individuals around the composer Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981). Luke Fowler tells the history of the orchestra and at the same time draws an intimate portrait of Cornelius Cardew. The film’s erratic narrative elaborates the political significance of collective music making and improvisation in the practice of the Scratch Orchestra. This specific area of interest corresponds with Luke Fowler’s own philosophy of working as a film maker that often involves an engagement with radical figures outside the mainstream culture.
This film event takes place on the occasion of Hannah Weinberger’s exhibition When You Leave, Walk Out Backwards, So I’ll Think You’re Walking In.
