OKAY OKAY. Der moderne Tanz (1980)
Christoph Dreher und Heiner Mühlenbrock
„OKAY OKAY. Der moderne Tanz“ – „OKAY OKAY. Modern Dance“ is a music video before it’s time. Shot before MTV began broadcasting, this filmic experiment to visualize the music of the time was made in West-Berlin in 1980. Christoph Dreher and Heiner Mühlenbrock realized the feature length film as students of the German Film and TV Academy Berlin (‘Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb))’ and expressed the life attitude of a generation living in a divided city that was marked by New Wave and Punk: Songs by bands such as Pere Ubu, The Residents, Wire, Throbbing Gristle, Chrome, The Red Crayola, Ultravox, PIL or James Chance are added to images of garbage dumps, industrial plants, apartment buildings and underground car parks. A demonstration against the imprisonment of squatters is to be seen as well as live performances of music bands in front of the Moab remand centres.
This film event takes place on the occasion of Bettina Pousttchi’s exhibition entitled “World Time Clock” which can be visited at Kunsthalle until March 13, 2011.
