Daniel Turner’s edition, conceived especially for his 2022 exhibition Three Sites at Kunsthalle Basel, emerges from the artist’s material excavation of different sites in Basel connected to its chemical and pharmaceutical production history. Each edition features an annotated card among those found in a former Ciba-Geigy and BASF building in Basel, which the artist soaked in radiator fluid and machine oil from this building and encased in lucite. Turner’s fascination with this corporate detritus relates to what he considers their inexplicable beauty and way of pointing to a bygone era, including obsolete communication and technical infrastructures. As such, the edition inscribes traces of the developments and transformations of some of the major chemical and pharmaceutical industrial complexes of Basel.
