Ser Serpas, Kunsthalle Basel, and JRP|Editions are proud to unveil Untitled, a series of unique monotypes by Ser Serpas. Serpas produced this series of unique monotypes in rapid succession, utilizing vibrant colors in an expressionistic and gestural manner to create an image of a single figure looking down at the ground. The inspiration behind the figure is based on an image the artist generated on the AI platform, Craiyon LLC. The characteristics of the figure are obscured, particularly in the face, its grimacing expression at once intelligible while also not constant and shifting in space as if seen in a dream or hallucination.
This special project has been conceived in support of Ser Serpas’s forthcoming publication, offering collectors an opportunity to acquire an original work while contributing to the broader celebration of her practice.

These small-scale sculptures, taking the form of houses (Rumah), sitting figures, lilies, and shrimps (Udang), originated from Fabric of the earth (2025), an installation featuring live 3D printing. Each edition was printed in Basel using mud sourced from the site of the 2006 Sidoarjo mudflow in East Java, Indonesia, where a gas drilling accident caused a devastating eruption.
The chosen forms evoke elements of the region’s daily life and environment, now altered or erased by the disaster. More than remnants of an installation, these sculptures stand as a bridge between Pandega’s ongoing exploration of environmental memory and his current exhibition at Kunsthalle Basel. In Sumber Alam, he continues to examine the complex relationship between technology, nature, and civic engagement.
Although created as part of a series, each edition is singular, bearing unique variations born from its making. They stand as delicate keepsakes of a place marked by profound ecological and human upheaval.

This limited edition functions as a tactile echo of the installation. It translates reflections on loss, memory, and cultural displacement into a form that may be carried. Not a relic, but a quiet trace of a place that can no longer be entered.
