Ein Vakuum entsteht in einem luftleeren Raum durch die Abwesenheit von Materie. Ein Vakuum kann auch in Situationen empfunden werden, in denen vertraute Handlungsmöglichkeiten fehlen. Unter dem Titel Picture a Vacuum! reflektiert die diesjährige Ausstellung des Kunstkredits Basel-Stadt künstlerische Strategien, um vakuumartige Zustände der Gegenwart aufzuzeichnen. Gezeigt werden acht Positionen, die 2020 von der Kunstkreditkommission mit einem Werkbeitrag ausgezeichnet worden sind. Sie befassen sich mit akustischer Stille und Resonanz, menschenleeren Landschaften und urbanen Räumen, mit Lücken in der eigenen Wahrnehmung, Leerstellen in der Überlieferung von Geschichte(n) sowie mit der mangelnden Vielfalt von Geschlechterrollen im Netz. Durch die überraschenden Herangehensweisen und die Fülle dieser Zugänge wird der Unterdruck produktiv.
